The Cardiff Office — known to plenty of regulars as “Duke's” — is the classic Cardiff neighborhood dive: unpretentious, budget-friendly, and just off Coast Highway 101 near Seaside Market. It's a low-key favorite for catching a Padres game with a cheap drink and friendly bartenders.
Bring quarters — pool runs about 75¢ a game — and know that the kitchen only fires on Fridays and Saturdays, though you're welcome to bring outside food.
Games are half the fun here: pool tables, shuffleboard, foosball, and arcade games share space with a TouchTunes jukebox and walls of sports and Cardiff-themed décor. The drinks are cheap and unpretentious, with a small but well-chosen whiskey selection and cold beer on tap.
Open daily until 2 a.m. — from 4 p.m. on weekdays and noon on weekends — it draws a laid-back crowd early and a livelier, younger scene later on weekend nights. Within walking distance of San Elijo State Beach, it's a dependable spot to end the day.
